Paramedic



October - October 1050 Hours 2 days/week

All Classes will be held at the Chesapeake Campus.

Graduates of the Paramedic program meet the Ohio Division of EMS requirements for eligibility to take the National Registry Certification Exam. The curriculum offered in this program includes, but may not be limited to classroom, laboratory, and clinical experiences in the following areas:

The Collins Career Technical Center Paramedic program has been issued a letter of review by the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP). This letter is NOT a CAAHEP accreditation status, it is a status signifying that a program seeking initial accreditation has demonstrated sufficient compliance with the accreditation standard through the Letter of Review Self Study Report (LSSR) and other documentation. Letter of review is recognized by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) for eligibility to take the NREMT's Paramedic credentialing examination(s). However, it is NOT a guarantee of eventual accreditation.

The goals of the paramedic program are:

  1. Student/graduate has skills adequate to function as an entry level paramedic.
  2. Student/graduate competently works as a paramedic in all aspects of the prehospital
  3. Student/graduate displays good communication skills.
  4. Student/graduate utilizes critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  5. Student/graduate uses measures to improve and maintain safety in the pre-hospital setting.
  6. Graduate is prepared to sit for and pass the national registry exam.

The learning objectives for the paramedic program are:

  1. Gain career awareness and the opportunity to prove their abilities in their career choice.
  2. Enhance their education experience by receiving laboratory and clinical experience related to emergency medicine prior to graduation.
  3. Receive greater meaning and comprehension for formal course work by integrating classroom studies with laboratory exercises and formal clinical experiences.
  4. Receive exposure to specialized facilities and equipment sometimes unavailable in the classroom setting.
  5. Develop confidence, maturity, responsibility, and skills in human relations.
  6. Increase employability potential after graduation.
