The Collins Career Center, located in Getaway, Ohio in Lawrence County was established in 1976 as a secondary career technical education institution.  The Collins Career Center serves the seven public high schools of Lawrence County including: Chesapeake High School, Dawson Bryant High School, Fairland High School, Ironton High School, Rock Hill High School, South Point High School, and Symmes Valley High School, as well as the private school of St. Joseph. 

In 1986, in an effort to meet the needs of the local communities, Collins Career Center expanded its scope to increase the level of educational resources available to serve adult students. 

  That same year, Collins Career Center received accreditation through the North Central Association Commission on School Improvement and was recently re-accredited in 2002.

The scope of the Collins Career Center's post-secondary operation was expanded once again in 1996 to serve Lawrence County agency customers through the co-development of a One-Stop partnership system, the Workforce Development Resource Center

Today, Collins Career Center is celebrating its 28th year of service to Lawrence County as well as the tri-state area of Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia.  AT the high school level, Collins Career Center currently serves approximately 492 students in its 21 career technical programs, which are grouped into Academies and Clusters in order to provide each student with multiple pathways to employment or post-secondary education.  Last year at the adult level, Collins Career Center served over 7,000 students in the areas of career development, career enhancement, customized training, and agency contracts.  Currently, the adult education department of Collins Career Center offers 22 programs in the fields of computer technology, health, protective services, and trade and industry.
