At Collins Career Center, every student must
complete 15 hours of community service before
graduation. Ms. Bennett, Pre-Nursing instructor,
set-up a project for her classes to do. Each
student was responsible for bringing in at least
$5.00, and the senior students went shopping for the
items needed for the project.
The junior and senior students decided to make
“Goody Bags” and to buy supplies needed to decorate
pumpkins to take to the Proctorville Head Start
center. With the money that was collected, the
senior students bought the items needed.
On October 24th, both the junior and senior classes
visited the Head Start center. When they arrived,
the children were eager to find out what they would
be doing. After getting everything organized, each
child was given a pumpkin, paint, eyes, and a nose
to decorate his or her pumpkin. After they were
finished, they went outside for playtime. Each
Pre-Nursing student worked one-on-one with a
student, and got to know him or her. The students
made a total of 40 decorated pumpkins and goody bags
for the Head Start. Everyone had a great time, and
the juniors and seniors completed a successful
community service project.
