Collins Career Center Program
Areas
Collins Career Center has
organized all career technical programs offered into Career
Academies and Career Clusters that will provide each student with
multiple pathways to employment or post-secondary education.
These Academies and Clusters work to promote career planning, relate
subject matter to the real world of life and work, and provide the
tools necessary for a successful transition from high school to
higher education, advanced training, and/or a career.
Career Academies are
research-based models for high school reform. Studies have
shown that students in career academies perform better in high
school and are more likely to go on to further their education after
graduation than are students in traditional high school learning
environments.
Three critical elements
for career academies are:
-
Small learning
communities consisting of a team of teachers with a consistent
group of students;
-
College preparatory
curriculum with a career theme;
-
Partnerships with
employers, communities, and higher education.
The Career Clusters
established by Collins Career Center also relate all educational
subjects to the students' career interest. This concept gives
each student the opportunity to master the skills necessary for the
career of their choice while at the same time participating in
academic courses that will benefit them in any occupation.
The curriculum at Collins
Career Center is organized into the Career Academies and Clusters
listed below. The specific programs offered in each Academy
and Cluster is discussed in detail.
Each Career Academy and
Career Cluster offered at Collins Career Center includes specific
programs for the student to choose from that directly correlates to
that career field.
